NOTE:This building does not have an elevator, and access to the second floor is only via stairs. Individuals with mobility issues are advised not to participate in tours involving the upper floor, as it is not wheelchair accessible. Additionally, the building does not have air conditioning. Since Liz Lerman founded Dance Exchange in 1976, the company's mission has been simple, yet radical: Dance is for everyone. The Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library celebrates fifty years of Dance Exchange with an exhibit centered on a few, seemingly random, objects chosen by Lerman from her archive in the library's Special Collections in Performing Arts. These objects, however, show how surprises from the archive can illuminate a larger story of an artist.
